Warner wants Tom Holland or Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka

Warner Bros. is developing a spin-off film from the classic The Fantastic Chocolate Factory, which promises to be a kind of prelude to Willy Wonka’s story before opening his confectionery company.

The film will be produced by David Heyman of the Harry Potter and the Fantastic Beasts franchise, and will be written by writer Simon Rich of the Miracle Workers series. As for the main actor who will play the young Willy Wonka, two names are mentioned by the studio.

According to Collider, Tom Holland and Timothée Chalamet are contesting the film’s lead role. Holland, who has already proven himself to be a versatile actor doing equally well in comedy, drama and action, is best known for being the current Spider-Man in theaters. Chalamet, for his part, has been widely acclaimed for his dramatic films, including Lady Bird, Lovely Women and Call Me By Your Name, the latter being the film for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

Both actors are set to star in blockbuster films in 2021. While Chalamet expects the release of Duna, a sci-fi work in which he plays protagonist Paul Atreides, Holland has a more comprehensive schedule as he is expected to appear in no less than four different films, including Uncharted and Spider-Man 3.

Either way, regardless of the studio’s choice, we know the two actors would definitely do the job. We can only wait for more updates on production.

The film, which is titled Wonka, is set to hit theaters on March 17, 2023.
