WandaVision: Jac Schaeffer talks about the origin of the Aerospace Engineer series

WandaVision has come to an end, and after many weeks of theories and expectations, part of the audience was unhappy with the completion of some of the mysteries presented by the series. One of the main ones was the contact identity of Monica Rambeau, a mysterious aerospace engineer who had her identity highly speculated, but who ended up being an original character in the series.

Showrunner Jac Schaeffer commented on the situation (via ComicBook). Much of the audience expected the series to feature an important character from the comics, such as Reed Richards, but that was never the intention of the writers, who would only introduce a new original character, who could not even returning to the MCU in the future. It was Major Goodner, a character who has ties to both SWORD and the United States Air Force, who filled that role in the plot, and although she was not As punchy as the introduction of one of the Fantastic Four members would be, the production company has revealed they have their reasons for including it.

In an interview with The Daily Princetonian, Schaeffer spoke more about the character and why he chose her for the scene, explaining that Major Goodner was named after a friend of the showrunner herself and that the situation she – even sought to represent all the periods when he was amazing. women were by her side when she needed it most:

“Do you know, the character that Monica knows on the show, that everyone thought would be Reed Richards, the engineer?” That character is Major Goodner, and she was named after a friend of mine, Aly Goodner, who attended Princeton with me, who is part of that group. I made this choice because the character represents all the times one of these women came to my aid and each time, they were very good at their job.

Major Goodner, played by Rachel Thompson in the series.

The producer and screenwriter added that for her the situation around theories and expectations was hilarious, as she knew it would be nothing for fans to speculate:

“It became this hilarious thing for me that everyone was like, ‘This is going to be Reed Richards, this is going to be an important man’, and I was like, ‘No, she is just a woman who is amazing. in what she does and will be there to help her friends ”.”

Many were disappointed, as the mention of an aerospace engineer suggested that whoever he was, the character would play an important role in getting Monica back into Hex, but that ultimately didn’t have much relevance. Still, Schaeffer’s intention was good, even if it’s a personal tribute, and not something made for the fans.
