The Suicide Squad spinoff series gets a release date

James Gunn’s Suicide Squad arrives to introduce a new group of crazy characters. From the expected film we will have a spinoff series, also commissioned and written by Gunn, which will focus on the Peacemaker, the character played by John Cena. Now, the project has a creation date of 2022.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Casey Bloys, head of content for HBO and HBO Max, revealed that the Peacemaker series will be released in January 2022:

“I started getting involved with DC content in August. Peacemaker is one of the first series that I approved and one of the first series to be released in January 2022. ”

James Gunn used his Twitter to celebrate the news and talk about the project:

“Peacemaker is my first television adventure and I really enjoy it. Being able to explore the lives and relationships of the characters in multiple episodes is like being able to breathe creatively for the first time. There is simply more space to explore all of the characters, other than two hours in a movie. And watching this incredible cast and crew bring this world to life every day is a great joy. I can’t wait to show you what we’re up to.

Who is the peacemaker?

Played by John Cena, The Peacemaker is a DC Comics anti-hero, who will make his live-action debut in The Suicide Squad. He’s a character who believes in peace above all else, but in order to achieve that goal, he’s more than willing to kill those who get in his way.

The character’s series, which will have eight episodes, has already started filming. Currently the cast includes Christopher Heyerdahl (Togo), Annie Chang (Shades of Blue: Police Secrets) and Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale), Chukwudi Iwuji (Eyes that Condemn), Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black) and Robert Patrick (O Terminator) 2).

Peacemaker debuts in January 2022, while The Suicide Squad arrives on August 6, 2021.
