The name SWORD will have another meaning in the MCU

In the comics, SWORD (also known as SWORD) is a pivotal piece in Marvel’s space and alien stories. It is an agency, headed by Abigail Brand, tasked with observing and confronting space forces that may pose a danger to Earth. Now, we know that in WandaVision, the agency will have a slightly different role …

Recently, Topps – a collectible card company – released images of the cards that will be sold to WandaVision fans. On these photos, we can see the official logo of SWORD as well as the meaning of the acronym, which reads: “Sentient Weapon Observation Response Division”.

In free translation, it means “Division of sensitive response and observation of weapons”. In other words, it is an agency that monitors any object or being that can be considered a weapon. Looking at the background to the series, it’s very likely that the organization is behind Wanda Maximoff herself.

In the comics, the organization’s name means “Sentient World Observation and Response Department”. This title gives a different character to the organization of the comics, as it is an agency that monitors threats of an alien and space nature. It is not yet known if, in the series, this will be the role of the agency.

WandaVision opens this Friday (15), with two episodes. The series will feature a total of nine episodes, which should mix a TV sitcom with the action epic already awaited by fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series’ plot is still shrouded in secrets, but we’ll see the Scarlet Witch and Vision finally have their “normal lives” – until they find out it’s not that normal …
