The first trailer for the film shows the shots of the games and a lot of blood

After releasing the incredible posters presenting its protagonists, the new Mortal Kombat movie has just won a very violent trailer. The Warner Project, which will be released both in theaters and on HBO Max, won’t save on blood, showing scams straight from games in the franchise.

In the trailer, we know a bit more about the plot, but the highlight is the fight scenes. Beginning with a rather grotesque scene showing how Jax lost his arms, the preview mostly highlights Sub-Zero’s icy powers and Scorpion’s current ability, which even goes so far as to say his iconic phrase. Mileena, Shang Tsung, and Goro also appear, along with Sonya, Kano, Raiden, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao.

Along with the launch of the trailer, a new poster was released highlighting the game’s most popular rivalry:

Scorpion and Sub-Zero, Mortal Kombat’s most classic rivalry

The official synopsis for the film says:

In “Mortal Kombat,” MMA fighter Cole Young, used to being beaten for money, doesn’t know where he came from – or why Exoterra’s Emperor Shang Tsung sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, to a cryomancer from another world, to hunt Cole. Fearing for the safety of her family, Cole sets out to find Sonya Blade after being directed to her by Jax, a special forces major who has the same brand of dragon that Cole was born with. Soon he finds himself in the temple of Lord Raiden, an ancestral God and protector of the Plan Earth who gives refuge to those who bear his mark. There, Cole trains with seasoned warriors Liu Kang and Kung Lao, and with mercenary Kano, as he prepares to join the Champions of Earth against the enemies of Exoterra in a battle for the universe. But will Cole be trained enough to unlock his arcane – the immense power in his soul – in time to not only save his family, but also stop the Exoterra once and for all?

Mortal Kombat is scheduled for release on April 16.
