The executive producer didn’t know who Mephisto was during the series

While Mephisto is incredibly important to the story of the Scarlet Witch, executive producer and showruner Jac Schaeffer confessed that he had no idea who he was while filming WandaVision.

In an interview with Mashable, Schaeffer revealed that the false clues about Mephisto weren’t planned by her and it was all a coincidence:

“I never had the conscious intention of creating a red herring [recurso narrativo para despistar os fãs] Mephisto, because I didn’t know who he was until I started doing interviews on the show.

According to her, the show didn’t need a big bad guy, and therefore, she wouldn’t like to see either Mephisto or Magneto appear in Wanda’s story. Therefore, all of the mentions and subtle details that might suggest the Marvel Devil’s presence on WandaVision were “a true coincidence.”

“He was not part of our conversations about the plot,” Schaeffer said. “It was very clear to us that the big bad would be in mourning. And the external evil would be Agatha. So, as a viewer and lover of the characters on the show, I wouldn’t want anything more.

The devil is in the details: Many fan theories have speculated on Mephisto’s participation in the series

In the comics, Mephisto is responsible for the “murder” of Billy and Tommy, the sons of Wanda Maximoff, absorbing them both like fragments of his soul. This traumatic event ends up culminating in Avengers: The Fall and M-Dynasty, two of the greatest Scarlet Witch stories in the comics.

So, do you think Mephisto’s “clues” were just a coincidence?
