The popular Uno card game is about to become a movie. According to Deadline, Mattel is developing “an assault comedy” inspired by the game.
The idea is for the movie to take place in the underground world of hip-hop in Atlanta, USA, with Grammy-nominated rapper Lil Yatchy in a lead role. Production is in charge of Mattel Films, directed by Robbie Brenner.
“At Mattel Films, we seek to explore stories that bring our brands to life in unexpected ways. Uno is a game that transcends generations and cultures and we hope to make an incredible partnership with Lil Yachty, as well as with trainer K and Brian Sher, to turn the classic Uno into a comedic action adventure, ”said Brenner.
Rapper and movie star Lil Yatchy added:
“I’m very happy to be a part of this movie with Mattel. I played Uno as a kid and still do today, so turning that movie into a movie based on the Atlanta hip hop scene that I came out of is really special. For me, it’s like I’m close to home.
In addition to Uno, Mattel is working on film development for several of the company’s other properties, such as Barbie, Masters of the Universe, Hot Wheels, and Magic 8 Ball.
Established in 1971, Uno was created to allow families to spend more time together and has quickly become a must have product for any home.
