WandaVision is shaping the entire Marvel Phase 4 storyline!
Warning: spoiler alert!
With each episode of WandaVision, more opportunities for theorizing arise. And with the fifth episode being, so far, the most surprising of the series, even more ambitious theories have started to emerge on the internet. The most recent was designed by Legion of Heroes team members Mike Sant’Anna and Chris Rantin.
Shared via Twitter, Mike and Chris believe it’s possible to unravel the main plot of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe from what we’ve already seen on WandaVision.
Can Mephisto be the big bad in the new MCU era?
Since WandaVision started airing on Disney +, the strongest theory being propagated by fans is that the real villain of the series is Mephisto, an extradimensional demon from the Marvel comics.
For our “theorists,” however, Mephisto’s threat will not be resolved by the end of the series and is expected to endure for future MCU projects, with the villain attempting to collect powerful souls on his journey through the franchise.
After collecting the soul of Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen), through her herald Pietro Maximoff (Evan Peters), the villain would go after Spider-Man. Yes, it’s true. Peter Parker (Tom Holland) can give Mephisto the next mighty soul for his “army of souls”.
Spider-Man 3 could have Mephisto collecting Peter Parker’s soul
In Spider-Man 3, the world knows the hero’s secret identity after a plan described by Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). For this reason, it is very likely that people close to Peter will become the target of villains, which can result in the death of characters like Aunt May (Marisa Tomei).
Mephisto then finds in a depressed Peter Parker the opportunity to win this new soul and offers him the chance to bring back the person who is gone, and to break him, to make the world forget the secret identity of Spider-Man.
It has already been confirmed that Doctor Strange 2 has to deal directly with the aftermath seen in WandaVision and Spider-Man 3.
How does Black Widow and Thor: Love and Thunder connect to Mephisto?
There is still room for Legionnaires Theory to encompass the Black Widow solo film and the fourth Thor film.
Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), as everyone knows, sacrificed her soul to Vormir in order to save the world in Avengers: Endgame. In the same movie, using the Gauntlet to bring back the dead from the breakup, the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) is unable to resurrect the Black Widow, as her soul had already been claimed by another entity … Mephisto.
While focusing on a story from the past, Black Widow can be a way to not only develop Natasha and introduce a future Black Widow into the MCU, but also connect the heroine’s origin to her tragic end. . A fate that should reverberate in the future of the franchise due to the arrival of this new villain.
Either way, we will find that the person responsible for acquiring the lives in the Soul Jewel this time around is none other than Mephisto. However, if you remember correctly, we already saw another heroine lose her life in Vormir: Gamora (Zoë Saldaña).
This is where Thor: Love and Thunder comes in! The film will reunite the Asgardian with the Guardians of the Galaxy again. Thus, Gamora’s sacrifice may have a place in the feature film. It is possible that the heroes will eventually discover that there is a way to reclaim the Soul of the Guardian, by defeating the one in his possession: Mephisto.
That’s why, then, we won’t have an Avengers movie at this point. It’s likely the Mephisto arc is responsible for the retirement of more MCU heroes, making room for new characters to be introduced in these new productions.
