Set photos confirm the Witcher 3 villains’ participation in the series

Filming for the second season of The Witcher is drawing to a close, and the final footage of the production appears to have delivered some of what Geralt and Ciri will face in the future. Thanks to photos of the recordings on a UK beach, it has been confirmed that Wild Hunt, a group of antagonists well known to fans of the franchise, will be in the next season of Netflix production.

A source on the Redanian Intelligence website confirmed that the grim armored knights seen in the footage are actually the Wild Hunt, led by Eredin Bréacc Glas, whom they consider to be a king. In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a CD Projekt Red game whose name refers to the group of knights, they are the main villains and are after Ciri because of her ancient blood. The group also has a stake in the books, where it is first mentioned in Tempo do Desprezo, the fourth book in the series.

In the Netflix production, the role of the villains is expected to be similar, and it’s possible we may see the group as another threat going after Ciri due to her powers. According to the footage, however, the group seen in the shoot is relatively small, and the riders were only seen in the last few days of recording, which may indicate that their participation this season will only be an indication of this. that we will see in the future.

What is the wild hunt and what is your role in The Witcher?

In The Witcher universe, the Wild Hunt was seen by many as a group of ghosts or phantom horsemen, who galloped across the sky. Numerous myths and superstitions surrounded the group, and some said their appearance was a harbinger of war. In reality, the Wild Hunt is formed by a group of elves different from those that exist on the continent, coming from another world in order to capture humanoids to turn them into slaves.

Also called Red Knights, the group has little involvement in the books, where they are only mentioned at first. In the fifth book, The Lady of the Lake, Ciri interacts with Eredin, and more is revealed about the Knights, such as the fact that they have conquered the world where their people, the Aen Elle, live, exterminating humans in the process. History makes it clear that Eredin does not intend to abandon Ciri, but Andrej Sapkowski’s work does not show that this is happening.

In the games, the participation of Wild Hunt is much greater, since the story takes place after what we see in the books. In the first game of the trilogy, Geralt has visions related to Eredin and his knights, while in the second, there is only one book that talks about specters. In The Witcher 3, however, the Wild Hunt is the primary threat throughout the story and its members are defeated at the end of the story.

In the series, the group’s participation in the second season is expected to be low, given that at this point where the story is, there is still a long way to go before the Red Knights get interested in Ciri and her powers. . Despite this, their inclusion in the Netflix production may be a way to start establishing them as enemies the girl will have to deal with in the future.
