Ninja’s great ally dies in the anime

Warning: spoiler alert!

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations continues its increasingly dark and sinister plot, as we become immersed in the intrigue of Kara and the supernatural menace of the Otsutsuki, hovering dark above the heroes. Unlike his father, Boruto Uzumaki has never had to deal with the death of mentors and friends – but that changes in frightening ways.

In the final chapter of the anime, we witness a brutal murder when we find out that Ao is an infiltrator of Kara. To keep the Otsutsuki’s plans safe and sound, the ninja offers to kill Boruto and Team 7 in battle. However, a champion puts himself in front of the villain and ends up sacrificing himself in the process.

This is Mugino, a great ally and friend of Boruto. When Ao tries to sacrifice the children, the ninja runs and grabs the villain from behind, preventing him from moving. However, Ao uses a double chakra sword and manages to pierce Mugino, hitting him well in the abdomen and killing him instantly.

The death is brutal by Boruto’s standards, showing how the anime, which started out lighter and more fun, finally comes to terms with the dark nature of its narrative. And with more stories involving Kara and the Rise of the Otsutsuki, we know that’s just the tip of the iceberg, and things are about to get even more sinister and violent.

Mugino, a hero who is remembered.
