BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU BLACK BELT LEANDRO ATAIDES WILL FACE KAZAKHSTAN MIXED MARTIAL ARTIST IGOR SVIRID FOR THE INAUGURAL ONE FC MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION BELT IN SINGAPORE ON 7 NOVEMBER 2014
Despite its status as the traditional epicentre of the martial arts world, the surge of interest in MMA has seen Asia fall behind the West in recent years with the most marketable events and profitable promotions invariably headquartered in the US.
Victor Cui, CEO of ONE FC, said the organisation had filled its ranks with a roster of world-class talent and fans in Singapore will see them in action come early November.
“We will crown a new world champion as two world-class middleweights face off for the honor of becoming the first man to don the ONE FC Middleweight World Championship,” Cui said.
Svirid, who has fought mostly in Russia, has competed nine times in the past fifteen months, winning all of his bouts and racking up an impressive winning streak.
Ataides, a knockout specialist, remains undefeated in seven of his professional bouts having ended his first two fights with ONE FC in devastating fashion – knocking out Brayan Rafiq and Tatsuya Mizuno in the first round.
Among the first fights announced for One FC’s 23rd show are top welterweights Bakhtiyar Abbasov who takes on Luis Santos, a fighter with 70 mixed martial arts bouts to his name, 34 of which have ended by either TKO or KO.
Another welterweight contest has also been added with the undefeated Dwayne Hinds taking on fellow undefeated Warren De Reuck in a clash of two top prospects.
Fast-rising star Aung La N Sang will also take on Japanese veteran Tatsuya Mizuno in a middleweight contest.
Singaporean mixed martial artists Kirstie Gannaway and Amir Khan are also set to represent Singapore at the event. Their opponents will be announced at a later date.
