MANNY PACQUIAO AND FLOYD MAYWEATHER AGREE TO SETTLE THE QUESTION THAT HAS BEEN PLAGUING FANS FOR YEARS: WHO IS THE NO. 1 BOXER OF THE MODERN ERA?

One of the most anticipated bouts in boxing history, Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao is finally on, in what also promises to be the richest fight ever.

Mayweather made the announcement on Friday via social media platform Shots, where he said giving the fans what they want is always his main focus.

“This will be the biggest event in the history of the sport.

“Manny is going to try to do what 47 before him failed to do, but he won’t be successful. He will be number 48,” Mayweather said, referring to his record of 47 straight wins.

At a press conference in Macau last year following Manny Pacquiao’s win over Chris Algieri, Top Rank founder and CEO Bob Arum, said it was time for the fight to happen.

“Everywhere we go fans ask when is it going to happen? When are they going to fight.”

The fight is set to take place on 2 May at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao left no doubt about his interest in facing the world’s best pound-for-pound boxer.

“I really want that fight,” he said. “The fans deserve that fight.”

Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s Hall of Fame trainer, weighed in on the announcement saying: “Floyd should enjoy being the A-Side while he can because on May 2 Manny is going to put him on his backside.”

Contracts to broadcast the bout have been signed by broadcasters HBO and Showtime, who will team for a historic joint pay-per-view.
