The trailer arrives tomorrow!
While being viewed with suspicion by fans, a new Mortal Kombat adaptation is coming. The film promises to present a new story, bringing beloved characters from the game’s franchise back to live action. Now, new animated posters have been released, featuring Sub-Zero, Kano, Mileena Kung Lao, and new character Cole Young.
In the first poster, we see Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, one of Mortal Kombat’s most popular ninjas. He appears with his mighty ice sword, shining blue eyes, and the faces of a few friends. The animation shows the ice growing on your weapon, starting to freeze the screen.
The second poster shows Josh Lawson as the criminal Kano. The villain appears with a scarred face and his dangerous bionic eye glowing red. Check:
The third poster finally shows what Sisi Stringer looked like as the bloodthirsty Mileena, a violent clone of Princess Kitana. The character appears with a scar on his face (likely an indication that we’ll see the rest of his mouth full of razor-sharp teeth), his face smeared with blood, and his glowing orange eye. In her hands, she carries her powerful Sai, the classic weapon used by the assassin.
Max Huang is the highlight of the fourth poster, appearing with his face obscured by Kombatente Kung Lao’s iconic hat. The warrior appears with his posture ready for a confrontation, while the blade of his weapon shines in the animation. Check:
Finally, we have Lewis Tan as Cole Young, a character who doesn’t exist in the games and who will be the protagonist of the film. The fighter appears with the mysterious dragon mark on his chest, eyes focused, and the faces of a few friends. Check:
The posters also have an ad: The first trailer for the film arrives Thursday (18) at 2 p.m. Excited?
The official synopsis for the film says:
In “Mortal Kombat,” MMA fighter Cole Young, used to being beaten for money, doesn’t know where he came from – or why Exoterra’s Emperor Shang Tsung sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, to a cryomancer from another world, to hunt Cole. Fearing for the safety of her family, Cole sets out to find Sonya Blade after being directed to her by Jax, a special forces major who has the same brand of dragon that Cole was born with. Soon he finds himself in the temple of Lord Raiden, an ancestral God and protector of the Plan Earth who gives refuge to those who bear his mark. There, Cole trains with seasoned warriors Liu Kang and Kung Lao, and with mercenary Kano, as he prepares to join the Champions of Earth against the enemies of Exoterra in a battle for the universe. But will Cole be trained enough to unlock his arcane – the immense power in his soul – in time to not only save his family, but also stop the Exoterra once and for all?
Mortal Kombat opens on April 16, 2021, arriving in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously.
