The actor also said the film was “very moving.”
After a long wait, the release of The Suicide Squad is finally approaching. Directed by James Gunn, the film is slated for release in the middle of this year, and fans don’t seem to be the only ones excited for the film. In an interview, actor Joel Kinnaman spoke a bit more about the film and was also very excited.
Kinnaman, who plays Rick Flag in The Suicide Squad, said in an interview with CBR (ComicBook) that the film is “absolutely ridiculous” but at the same time “very touching”, so the two aspects are balanced. Additionally, the actor also shared his enthusiasm for the film:
“I mean, can’t wait to see it. When I read the script, like every page, every page of the script made me laugh. She’s the silliest, the most violent and at times she’s very emotional. It’s just an absolutely ridiculous story. Yeah… well, you know, honestly, I think people are going to love it. I really do. I think it’s going to be a very, very popular film.
Previously, Kinnaman had spoken about the film in an interview last year, where his impressions were quite similar to what the actor was saying now:
“This movie is going to be crazy. The storyline is so funny. Every page of this script is funny and every page made me laugh. James simply has the upper hand in this genre, but also any aspect of comedy and even marketing. He just understands the world so well, and because he wrote [o script], he really reinvents not only the concepts, but also the characters. For me, it was as if I had done my first comedy, but it’s also very heavy. It was also a learning experience for me, as I had never done a comedy like this before. So I asked James to work with me and teach me this shit. And yes, we had a lot of fun doing it. This movie is going to be a real monster. Honestly, even though I’m in the movie, I can’t wait to watch it as a fan.
In addition to Joel Kinnaman’s return as Rick Flag, the film will star Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Margot Robbie as Harlequin, and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. The film will also make several additions to the cast, featuring David Dastmalchian as Polka Dot Man, Steve Agee as King Shark, Daniela Melchior the Mousehunt II, Idris Elba as Sanguinarian, John Cena as Peacemaker, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Flula Borg as Dart, Mayling Ng as Mongal, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Michael Rooker as Savant, Alice Braga as Sol Soria and Sean Gunn as Weasel.
The Suicide Squad is scheduled for release on August 6 of this year, in theaters and on HBO Max.
