ROUGH presents an occasional series of profiles and galleries from the photographers who cling to the cage, capturing every blow landed and every bout recorded.

Name: David Ash

Bio: Born in the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland, David arrived in Asia 25 years ago and now calls Singapore home. He is an award-winning international photographer and a Nikon Professional.

In his own words: “I have been taking photographs for as long as I can remember: from simple Kodak 110 point-and-shoots, through Polaroids, all kinds of film, and digital since only 2002. I was a late starter in that field but I still use film when I can.

“I started off taking pics of rock bands and followed all the major rock acts whenever they came to Scotland, as well as local acts. These days I cover a variety of commercial subjects from F&B to portraits but sports is a genre that I love and have been involved in the fight game since about 2009 when I first started shooting wrestling and boxing in Singapore and across the region.

“These days I shoot all sorts of things from rugby, football, F1, to golf as well as ONE Championship and the UFC. I’m a big supporter of grassroots sports and offer my services to young up-and-coming promotions in the region to help them grow and provide a platform for fighters.”
