Elizabeth Olsen shares what she thought when Evan Peters joined the show

WandaVision, the first series from Marvel Studios, dared to bring Evan Peters in the role of Mercury, brother of Wanda Maximoff who had previously been played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the franchise.

However, it was all even more shocking as Peters had also played the character before, but in the Fox X-Men franchise. Therefore, he belonged to a different cinematic universe, even though he was based on a single character from the comics.

What happened is that Marvel Studios, in fact, took advantage of the fact to play with the expectations of fans, who are hoping to see the Avengers and X-Men universe united for a long time. However, it was not only the fans who were surprised by Peters’ participation, but also star Elizabeth Olsen.

For Variety, the actress reported on the level of excitement she felt when she learned that Evan Peters would be joining the cast of WandaVision as Pietro Maximoff:

“When we heard that Evan was going to do this, my mind exploded. After all, this would be the first time that we would mix universes. It was crazy!”

Of course, the excitement didn’t last long, as at the end of WandaVision, Pietro’s true identity is revealed. Still, Olsen loved the turnaround involving the character:

“Using it as intelligently as Jac Schaeffer used it was very satisfying. Working with Evan to make this version of Pietro was really fun, weird, and funny and, oh my god, I loved it so much. I’m very grateful. “

In a recent interview, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, talked about having Evan Peters play the role of Pietro, an idea that began very early in the development process of WandaVision.

The series can be viewed in full on the Disney + streaming service.
