To everyone’s surprise!
Actors Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge will star in a new version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith for Prime Video, streaming from Amazon. It’s a series that is slated to premiere in 2022 (via Variety).
The project is inspired by the 2005 film, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, which was a huge commercial success, raising $ 500 million worldwide.
Award-winning Donald Glover is known for films like Solo: A Star Wars Adventure and the Atlanta series. In addition, he also has a successful career as a musician, under the name of Childish Gambino.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, meanwhile, is a multiple award-winning screenwriter and actress for the Fleabag series. She wrote the screenplay for the upcoming James Bond film, No Time to Die, in addition to acting in the show His Dark Materials and with Glover in Solo: A Star Wars Adventure.
The two actors also sign the creation of the series Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
The series was co-created with Francesca Sloane, who will act as showrunner. Amazon Studios Director Jennifer Salke posted the news of the new program on her Twitter account and said:
“Talk about this dream team! Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world. It is truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to bring these two forces of nature together as a powerful creative team. Mr. and Mrs. Smith is an iconic property, and we can’t wait to see how Donald, Phoebe and Francesca make it their own. We are delighted to work with them and these great partners of New Regency.
