Disney closes Blue Sky Studio, studio responsible for Ice Age and Rio

According to Deadline, Disney has decided to shut down Blue Sky Studio, the studio responsible for blockbuster entertainment like Ice Age, Rio, and Snoopy and Charlie Brown. The adaptation of HQ Nimona, currently in development by the studio, has been discontinued.

As the website states, the move is not seen as a novelty by pundits, especially given Disney’s decisions regarding 20th Century Fox properties and the pandemic which has significantly affected the profits of the giant. entertainment (including the closure of theme parks and the indefinite postponement of major theatrical releases).

For Deadline, it was no longer viable to maintain a third animation studio, so the company will close in April. 450 employees will be affected by the decision, losing their jobs. According to the website, some employees will be assigned to other positions within Disney Studios.

A representative for the studio told the website: “Given the current economic reality, after much thought and thought, we have made the difficult decision to close the theater operations at Blue Sky Studios.

It should be remembered that, despite this decision, the original characters created by Blue Sky Studios will continue to be available for Disney. An Ice Age series is in development for Disney + and this could be the destination for other company franchises.

Nimona

Nimona will no longer have an adaptation.

Scheduled for release on January 14, 2022, the adaptation of Nimona which would be commissioned by Patrick Osborne has been discontinued and will no longer be broadcast. It took about 10 months of production to complete the project.

Nimona is a graphic novel by Noelle Stevenson, the creator of the acclaimed reboot of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. In the story, we accompany a young shapeshifter who joins a mad scientist to fight the king of the kingdom in which they live. The story won over fans because of its fun art and engaging plot full of twists and turns.
