DC Comics announces animations for Constantine, Blue Beetle and more

In addition to having a large space in comics, theaters and games, DC Comics is also known for its animation, be it movies or animated series. Now, Warner has just announced, in partnership with the publisher, four new animated short films focused on very interesting properties and characters: Kamandi, Besouro Azul, Constantine and Os Perdedores.

These shorts will be part of the DC Showcase line, a series of shorts that has been around since 2010, and contains contained and small adventures of important characters from the publisher. Just to give you an idea, heroes like Green Arrow, Catwoman, Jonah Hex, and Death got their shorts.

The news was given in an official press release (press release), as published by Comics Beat:

“DC Comics’ beloved characters – Kamandi, The Losers, Blue Beetle and Constantine – will be the focus of four new animated shorts from the DC Showcase line, which will be released by Warner Bros. Home entertainment between 2021 and 2022. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, and inspired by characters and stories from the iconic DC canon, the new quartet of shorts will be included in future releases of DC Universe, with the exception of the Constantine short, which will be longer and serve as a anchor for a compilation expected to be released in 2022. Further information will be released at dates closer to the individual versions. “

Apparently this suggests that Constantine’s short will be a larger narrative that will be featured on a DVD compiling all of the other shorts in the DC Showcase line. After this full announcement, the text also provided some information for the first of the releases, which will be Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth!

Kamandi was a creation of Jack Kirby for the DC Universe. He’s a boy who lives in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic future, which comes after a catastrophic event known as the “Great Disaster”, where humanity rediscovers its wildest and most primitive instincts. Check out the synopsis below:

Directed by Matt Peters (Dark Justice League: Apokolips War) with a screenplay by Paul Giacoppo (Young Justice), “Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth!” will be the first of the short films released. Post-apocalyptic thriller will be a special bonus ‘Justice Society: World War II’, which will be released in the spring [do hemisfério norte] 2021.

As previously stated, these shorts are slated for release between 2021 and 2022. Generally, DC Showcase shorts are considered bonuses and extras on DVDs and Blu-Rays of DC Comics animated films. In other words, keep an eye out for the next news that will come to the publisher’s animated universe.
