[Crítica] Temtem is a fun game, but incomplete

At first glance, Temtem is just another copy of Pokémon. You create your character, become a “Temtem Trainer” and go to several islands to hunt monsters and capture them, making them join your team and fight other trainers who come your way. Yes, the game is “completely inspired” by Pokémon, but it also manages to bring in different and new things, some of which could learn from the great Nintendo game.

Temtem was initially advertised as a kickstarter game and quickly ended up generating enough buzz to get a big release on multiple platforms. Still, it looks a lot like an indie game, made by Pokémon fans who really liked the game in the early 2000s, grew up, became game designers and producers, and decided to implement all of these things. that they would like to see in the franchise. in a game completely theirs. And there is absolutely no problem with that, quite the contrary.

Temtem almost looks like a more ambitious and different evolution of Pokémon, which has really listened to fans after several years of complaints and requests for something different than just bigger, more powerful versions of the same monsters.

One of the most interesting elements of the game is the MMORPG.

At first, two things stand out in a very positive way: Each “Temtem” has abilities which are stronger when it is in the presence of another type of monster, a type of synergy of movements, which really makes you want to ‘have a diverse team and ends up doing, at least at the start of the game, you test and discover very interesting combinations.

The second is the MMORPG element, which several Pokémon fan-made games have been doing for a long time, but the main franchise just pretends not to be something many optional fans requested (especially after the main campaign ends). for years. .

The game is also not afraid to include non-binary characters and use neutral language, which some may find strange at first, as there are multiple X’s in all possible words, but at the same time c t is very beautiful to see the concern of the creators not to limit the characters to the genres. Even when creating your trainer, all options are available regardless of your chosen gender, whether it’s physical characteristics or clothing.

Temtem has several customization options, both in the creation of the trainer and later in the game.

Still talking about the elements of the game that the Pokémon franchise could bring to the main franchise (and not a spinoff game) is that in Temtem after a side mission you can get a house and decorate it however you like. Yes, it’s almost a mix of Pokémon and Animal Crossing.

But certainly, one of the most surprising experiences was that before playing Temtem, knowing that he was a collector of MMORPG monsters, I was really afraid of the kind of community the game would have, after all, just after playing any title online to be afraid. However, at least in the first week I played, all I found were people playing quietly (and even very polite kids), having fun and in no time at all the few trolls had had recognition or responses, leaving only complaints and oblivion.

The game uses neutral language

However, not all is flowered. Obviously, being “inspired” by Pokémon, it also ends up catching several small issues with the franchise. The main thing is the delay in getting from one place to another, which increases with the difficulty of getting the surfboards and using the “planes”.

The game also brings something that has been discussed a lot in the Pokémon community since the beginning of the franchise and today it’s okay for everyone to have a say – and I especially hate: the trainers you have to fight against. fight to move forward on a route. It gets pretty boring sometimes, especially when you have to do it multiple times in the same path.

Each Temtem has a different class

Perhaps one of the weirdest things about the game is the fact that it doesn’t have a tutorial.

You are simply thrown into this world and if you want to know which type of Temtem is strong against another, you have to search the internet for information or venture out and find out for yourself. If you are familiar with Pokemon, you will know how to use some elements of the graphics and the basic advice to always watch the dumps, but for those who have never played something like this before, the initial experience can be quite confusing. .

The visuals in the game are also very beautiful especially the trainers which are all very different and with colorful and flashy visuals but the storylines in most cases end up much more identical.

Battles are very similar to Pokémon

It should be remembered, however, that the game is still in early access. What does it mean? A lot of things are still incomplete – you might want to wait a bit before buying it. Several locations are closed, several Temtem cannot be captured, and some upgrades have not been added.

A lot of the gameplay elements are confusing, like the user interface (user interfaces), which are very complicated to navigate, and there is no good reason why they should be. The buttons on the Playstation 5 are also not easily recognized and you often wonder which one to press to perform a certain action.

At the moment, Temtem is taking its first steps, but it has everything to become a great fun and adventurous title for all ages. MMORPG element makes it even more fun because you can play and evolve with your friends. However, he has to keep improving – and that’s something I’m sure of.
