Cobra Kai producer talks about possible series spinoff

The third season of Cobra Kai arrived on Netflix recently, receiving a lot of praise from the public. The series, initially launched by YouTube and saved from cancellation by the streaming platform, has been renewed for the fourth season, and its producers have noted that the series has already been scheduled to end. Now one of them has commented on the possibility of a Cobra Kai spin-off.

In an interview with TVLine (, showrunner Hayden Schlossberg discussed the desire of the creative team behind the series to further explore the Karate Kid universe:

“Our hope is that we can really expand the entire Karate Kid universe and reinvigorate the fan base, so that this is a story we can continue to tell. We have an ending planned for Cobra Kai, but we still compare our other favorite series, Breaking Bad, and how they managed to continue the story with Better Call Saul and El Camino. We spent some time on Kreese’s story in season three, but we could have spent more time. We have so much to tell in these half-hour episodes, and it’s just not enough. We are just having fun as friends working in the Karate Kid sandbox and we hope to continue.

The showrunner also said the team had several ideas, but argued that a spinoff should have the right theme and maintain the quality of Cobra Kai:

“If you look at our careers, we’ve always done sequels. We fall in love with our characters. Every spin-off or deepening variation goes through our heads. It always has to be the right thing, and it has to be of the same level of quality as Cobra Kai. Our heads are always thinking of Karate Kid, so the possibility certainly exists.

The showrunner’s speech suggests that not only Schlossberg, but the entire Cobra Kai creative team would be interested in further exploring the Karate Kid universe. However, a spin-off of the series remains only a possibility so far.

And you, what would you like to see in a possible Cobra Kai spin-off?
