Chris Evans denies knowing a possible return to the MCU as Captain America

This week, news of Chris Evans’ possible return as Captain America surprised fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who thought the First Avenger story was over. Many are celebrating the actor’s return, but it looks like the celebration may have been premature, as Evans appears to have been as surprised by the news as the audience.

Although several sources apparently confirmed the news of the deadline, which indicated that the actor would return for certain appearances in the MCU, in theaters or at Disney +, Evans made a tweet which cast doubt on the veracity of these statements (ComicBook):

In the tweet, Chris Evans says β€œNew to me πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈβ€ which suggests the actor was unaware and the news of his return to the MCU may be false. Still, the Deadline publication indicated that negotiations were still in their infancy. It could be that Evans is simply avoiding premature confirmation or trying to keep it a secret until the case can be officially disclosed.

Many fans viewed Steve Rogers’ ending in Avengers: Endgame as the perfect ending to the character’s arc in theaters. Many others, however, were extremely excited about the character’s possible return. As of now, it’s not clear which of these paths will follow the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
