There is something wrong with Westview and she may have the answer!
Warning: spoiler alert!
WandaVision has already reached its third episode, but the mystery of what happens with Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) and the world around them remains firm and strong. One of the characters may have the answer to these questions: Agnes (Kathryn Hahn), who appears in some behind-the-scenes photos from the show that may have revealed more about her true identity (via CBM).
The third episode of the series, titled “Now in Color”, confirmed that she certainly has some knowledge of what is going on in Westview, the small town where the story of the series takes place. However, he has yet to confirm a theory that prevailed among fans prior to WandaVision’s debut: that Agnes is, in fact, Agatha Harkness, a powerful Marvel Comics witch with deep ties to the Scarlet Witch in the comics. But that may be about to change.
Some photos taken during the filming of the series last year and posted on Twitter show Agatha apparently in the past, with other witches, in what appears to be a witchcraft trial. The description of the photos, by the way, says that Agnes was burnt alive like a witch, which gives a lot of strength to the theory that she is in fact Agatha Harkness, because in the comics she was one of the witches original from the time of the executions in Salem, Massachusetts, took place in the 17th century.
Other indications of Agnes’ identity have been made in the series itself, such as the fact that she dresses as a witch for Haloween, for example. Either way, while the leaked photos don’t support the fan theory, they make it clear that Agatha Harkness could be introduced to the MCU very soon.
Who is Agatha Harkness?
In the comics, Agatha Harkness is one of the witches who have been hunted and tried in Salem, having survived through the centuries to become a prominent figure in the Marvel Universe. It was extremely important in the life of Wanda Maximoff, to mentor her and teach her to better control her powers, making her even more powerful. She also protected Franklin Richards, son of Reed Richards, by acting as his nanny.
When Mephisto revealed to Wanda the truth about her two sons, who were in fact fragments of her demonic soul, it was Agatha Harkness who erased this fact from Wanda’s memory to ease her pain. The witch also helped her master her “chaos magic,” and even after her death, she continued to help the scarlet witch with her wisdom. Even the events of the M dynasty did not diminish her importance, and she reappeared after the events of the saga in the figure of “Aunt Agatha”, who lived with her in a small apartment as her only relative.
WandaVision airs weekly on Disney +, with new episodes every Friday.
