UFC has confirmed a massive line up for its first event in Seoul on 28 November, with Benson Henderson, Thiago Alves, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović, Dong Hyun Kim and Alberto Mina all part of the line up.
Held at the Olympic Park Gymnastics Arena, former UFC lightweight champion Benson “Smooth” Henderson (22-5-0) will face Brazilian Thiago Alves (26-10-0) in the main event.
This will be the Asia second fight for Henderson, also half Korean, after successfully defeating Frankie Edgar by unanimous decision in Japan three years ago. A win over a legend like Cro Cop would give Hamilton a signature victory to propel him into the mix in the heavyweight division.
Closer to home and the UFC has announced a string of Asia-based fighters for Fight Night Seoul.
As widely expected, one of Korea’s most successful mixed martial artist Dong Hyun Kim (20-3-1) will take on long time veteran Jorge Masvidal (29-9) for a welterweight bout. The UFC said a win over the seventh-ranked Kim will prime Masvidal for a title run at 170lbs.
Also announced to defend his 11 fight win streak is Alberto “Soldier of God” Mina (11-0), a jiu-jitsu black belt who fights out of Epic MMA in Hong Kong. He is set to face UFC veteran and decorated Judoka Sung Hoon “Sexyama” Choo (14-5), who returns for his first fight since his unanimous victory against American Amir Sadollah in 2014 after a two year layoff.
Tickets for UFC Fight Night Seoul will go on sale from 8 September.
