Fight fans in Jakarta will get to witness one of the most eagerly anticipated lightweight matchups of the year because Roger Huerta’s bout with Koji Ando has been shifted to the ONE: ‘Odyssey of Champions’ card.
Huerta (22-7-1-1) made his name fighting for the UFC where his wars with Clay Guida and Leonard Garcia are still talked about to this day. He also had a stint with Bellator before signing with ONE in 2012.
After putting in one of the most impressive performances of his career to stop previously undefeated Englishman Christian Holley in the opening round at ONE: ‘Reign of Champions’ last year Huerta could be a win away from a lightweight title shot.
Standing in front of him 27 September will be an opponent who has already challenged for the title once. Ando (11-4-2) is a former Legend FC 155 lbs champion who saw a five fight winning streak that included victories over Narutungalag Jadambaa and Zorobabel Moreira snapped when he was outpointed by Shinya Aoki earlier this year.
Two other matchups which have been added to the 11 fight card which is set for the Istora Senayan Stadium in Jakarta. In the bantamweight division Yusup Saadulaev (13-4-1) will be looking to get back to winning ways when he takes on promotional newcomer Sotir Kichukov (13-3).
Meanwhile one of the fastest rising WMMA stars in Asia will be back in action as Angela Lee (1-0) takes on Sanda specialist Elena Pashnina (2-0). The event is headlined by a featherweight title match between defending champion Narutungalag Jadambaa and undefeated challenger Marat Gafurov.
The first four fights on the ONE: ‘Odyssey of Champions’ card will be available to view free of charge via Facebook, with the remaining card on sale for US$9.99.
