Luis Santos inability to make weight ahead of his welterweight title rematch with Ben Askren tonight has left Victor Cui seething.
The ONE Championship CEO slammed the Brazilian for coming in at 78.2kgs and failing a second attempt, more than half a day after his first attempt.
The title fight has now been scrapped and ONE: ‘Pride of Lions’ will be headlined by a fight between Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke and Yago Bryan, event although he won’t be defending his 115 lbs title because the Brazilian missed weight.
“It’s incredibly unprofessional for Sapo to be so unprepared and completely not make weight for this fight,” Cui said.
“Askren put in the hard work, made weight, and it really is unbelievable to see Sapo be so unprofessional and have a complete disregard of what it means to be a professional fighter competing at the highest levels of MMA.”
Askren wanted Santos to weigh in at 190 lbs at 1pm this afternoon (Singapore time) but the Brazilian seemed reluctant to agree to his demands.
The event is being broadcast live across Asia by Fox Sports. The first four fights will all be available to view on the ONE Championship Facebook page.
