After one of its most explosive seasons yet, the countdown to Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial grand finale is on.
On Saturday 10 October, Asia’s biggest amateur MMA tournament will return for its third season finale with nine epic battles across seven weight classes.
Season three also marks the start of a new chapter for MIMMA, where two new categories, Foreign Pride and Women, were introduced to meet the demands of a rapidly expanding MMA scene.
This year’s women’s bout will see Felicia Yunun go head-to-head with Joanna Yap Yen, while A-Karadech Seesombat and Ahmadjon Karimor will battle it out in the Foreign Pride division.
Also returning for a third year is Muhammad Aiman in the featherweight category.
Aiman made it through to last year’s grand finale but was unable to fight after failing to make weight. He is the only fighter undefeated for two seasons but still without the championship belt.
Dhiaaul Amal, a common name in Malaysia’s MMA scene, will square off in the flyweight division against Seah Yang Yu. Yu returns to MIMMA’s third grand finale to defend the flyweight title which he won last year in dramatic fashion.
The 19-year-old Yu was offered to fight defending champion Kenny Yap less than 24 hours before fight last year’s grand final. He managed to cut 6.5kg and went on to score a first-round knockout over Yap to become a MIMMA champion.
The depth of talent in this year’s grand finale will be on show with a middleweight match between Meeraj Omar and Muhammad Syafiq Bin Jamaludeen.
Omar, a Sanda World Cup 2012 Silver Medalist has a 4-0 professional boxing record and was a 2014 Commonwealth Games participant. It will be a tough battle against Syafiq who is riding a three fight win streak.
Another highlight this year is Darren Low, the current heavyweight champion and probably the biggest amateur MMA fighter in Malaysia. He will take on Niker Tan Sian Kai in what will be one of the highlight matches.
The MIMMA3 Grand Finals will be happening on Saturday 10 October at the Putra Indoor Stadium.
Tune Talk, official presenter of MIMMA, has also teamed up Asia’s largest MMA promotion ONE Championship to bring fight fans in Malaysia a week-long extravaganza dedicated solely to the sport of mixed martial arts.
ONE: Tigers of Asia will also be held at the same venue on the 9 October.
Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial grand finale will also be broadcast live online at malaysianinvasion.com.
Weigh-ins will be held on 9 and the whole event will be streamed live at malaysianinvasion.com.
