AFTER BEING RELAUNCHED IN MARCH, ABU DHABI WARRIORS IS BACK FOR ITS THIRD INSTALLMENT.

Abu Dhabi Warriors 3 is set for the Ipic Arena on 26 September and will be headlined by a light heavyweight matchup between Brazilian veteran Fabricio Monteiro and Sweden’s Max Nunes.

Monteiro (18-9) fought once for ONE Championship, beating Yuya Shirai by unanimous decision in 2012. He hasn’t tasted competitive MMA action since but is a BJJ black belt who currently lives and works in the UAE and has 14 stoppage wins to his name.

Nunes (15-3) has spent virtually his entire career competing in Europe but scored a stoppage win at Abu Dhabi Warriors 2 earlier this year. His three losses have all come in title fights and he’s fought for belts with both Superior Challenge and BAMMA.

Two lightweights who registered wins at Abu Dhabi Warriors 2 will also go head-to-head when American Top Team’s Waylon Lowe (15-6) takes on Montenegro’s Vaso Bakocevic (20-8-1).

The former is a WSOF, Bellator and UFC veteran while the latter has won four straight fights. Abu Dhabi Warriors held its inaugural event in 2012 but then went on a three year hiatus.

The promotion was relaunched in March and according to managing director Lubomir Guedje the objectives are now a lot more clear.

“Abu Dhabi Warriors is committed to supporting the development of youth and sports in the UAE,” he said.

“By increasing interest in this sport in the UAE, we will help encourage and develop fighters on a local level, thus promoting the UAE’s reputation in the field of combat sport.”
