STRIEGL WINS PROMOTIONAL ONE CHAMPIONSHIP DEBUT WITH CONVINCING WIN AGAINST CASEY SUIRE.
It has been almost two years since Mark Striegl fought in Manila, but the Filipino-American fighter returned to form in spectacular fashion at ONE Championship’s “Valor of Champions” last Friday night.
In front of a hometown crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena, the 26-year-old secured a first-round victory over the undefeated American fighter Casey Suire in the co-main event bantamweight match.
Early in the first round Striegl took Suire down with a side headlock before moving to take his opponent’s back. While Suire managed to free himself a couple of times from Striegl’s hold, Striegl secured a rear naked choke, forcing him to tap out at the 3:48.
In a postmatch interview, Striegl said it was great to be back in Manila.
“It’s been almost two years since I’ve been fighting here. To get the win in front of the home crowd is amazing,” he said.
“You train for the best. You always want to finish your opponent. At least that is my style. You’ll never see me in a boring fight. I always come forward and go for the finish,” he said.
Earlier this year Striegl relocated to Singapore to become a full-time member of the Evolve MMA fight team and signed with ONE Championship in the same month.
Here’s how his debut bantamweight bout went down.
